Restoration of listed and period buildings

We carry out the sensitive repair and restoration of listed and period property, where the choice of materials and the quality of the craftsmanship determine the result.

Stamford and the villages around it are built almost entirely of local limestone, and restoring them properly calls for matched stone, lime mortars rather than cement, and tradesmen who have done the work before. It also calls for a willingness to spend longer on a detail than a programme might otherwise allow.

We work alongside conservation officers and heritage architects throughout, and we record the building as we go, so that anything uncovered during the works is properly documented rather than relied upon from memory.

Our restoration of Kings Mill returned the building to use stone by stone, and we carry out refurbishment for the Burghley Estate on its properties in St Martins, Stamford.
